Egg donors bring incredible hope and the chance to experience parenthood to those who are unable to conceive a child biologically. They are extraordinary and selfless individuals who create life for others.
Egg donation is a personal and selfless demonstration of kindness. For some donors, the decision to become an egg donor stems from wanting to do some good for another human being, even if they don’t know them personally. For others, it may be a little closer to home and driven by someone you know who has faced similar difficulties with infertility. Whatever the reason, the decision is life-changing for those who depend on egg donation to create their family.

In the UK, the need for IVF using donor eggs has increased steadily in recent years and there are many situations where generously donated eggs offer a pathway to parenthood. So, who exactly needs donor eggs?
To become an egg donor, you need to meet the following criteria established by the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority (HFEA) and Egg Donors UK.
We are able to accept egg donations from women aged between the ages of 18 and 35 who are generally fit and healthy.
We ask our egg donors to have a BMI of between 19 and 35 to ensure healthy egg quality.
Smoking has been shown to negatively impact fertility and egg quality so donors cannot smoke, vape or use nicotine gum or patches.
Some contraceptive methods can interfere with the egg donation process, so donors should be willing to use an alternative during the donation process.
The egg donation process requires frequent monitoring and counselling so regular attendance at these appointments is crucial for a successful cycle.
Donors should not have any inherited medical conditions (such as Type 1 Diabetes) to minimise the risk of passing genetic disorders to the child.
In the UK, children born from donated eggs have the right to access certain identifiable information about their donor from the age of 16.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding involve significant hormonal changes that can affect the egg donation process, so we ask that donors wait six months after giving birth before donating.
